Course description

Understanding financial information is a key asset for any executive working with top management. You are required to understand the financial side of running a business and how companies create value. You may have your key expertise in other parts of running the business or are working with top management in your role as consultant, banker, or lawyer and need to improve your ability to discuss financial aspects with the whole management team. This program is a good match for all these situations.

The Finance for Non-Finance Executives program covers all the key aspects of financial analysis and value-based management. You will learn the fundamentals of finance: how to read and analyze financial statements and the concepts of discounting and net present value, as well as other techniques that companies use when evaluating investment opportunities.

During the Finance for Non-Finance Executives program, you will learn how companies are valued in financial markets, what affects the value, and how they can make decisions to increase company value. You will also gain an improved understanding of companies’ financing options and learn about tools to analyze mergers and acquisitions. After the program, you will be better positioned to participate in a company’s financial decision-making and contribute to its value-based decisions.

The Finance for Non-Finance Executives program is a five-day on-site program including faculty led sessions. The teaching days include lectures on theory as well as assignments discussed in small groups. The program also includes pre-work and post-assignments – required to gain 4.5 ECTS credits for the Aalto Executive MBA or Aalto MBA program.

Teaching takes place at Aalto EE's premises in Helsinki.
