Course description
The role of HR and people management professionals is changing fast. This era, described as the fourth industrial revolution, could become a golden opportunity for HR/people management leaders. As an HR/people management leader, you will have a chance to make a difference and add value to the business by actively influencing and contributing to strategic decision-making and empowering people.
To lead successful business and operations and add value to customers and stakeholders, it will not be enough for business leaders to focus only on numbers, customers, and investments in digital technology, data, and processes. Instead, leaders will need to focus on their people: providing essential psychological safety and financial stability while motivating, empowering, and offering meaningful work and development opportunities for employees.
At the same time, organizations, leaders, and policymakers are facing and sharing many unpredictable and complex challenges that require a rapid response and effective collaboration across and beyond traditional borders, both organizationally and nationally. This requires extraordinary leadership and people skills from you as a people management leader. You will need to understand your unique organizational culture and the context your organization operates in.
The Executive HR program brings together experienced HR/people management leaders from all sectors and industries. Led by leading experts from Aalto University and collaborators from the business world, we will discuss, learn, and debate the latest discoveries and best practices in the HR/people management field.
During the program, you will deepen your strategic HR/people management and leadership knowledge and skills. You will gain confidence and build a strong peer network. You can immediately apply your learning in practice and ensure your HR/people management team's actions are aligned with the overall organizational strategy.
The program consists of three modules. The first focuses on the foundations and purpose of strategic HR/people management and leadership. The second is based on people, performance, and strategic capabilities; how we should support, motivate, and lead people to succeed and enhance the employee experience. The third is about insights; we take a look into ourselves as leaders and then we look ahead.
There will be some pre-reading and one written home assignment to be completed during the program, in addition to the three modules. Together with a project group, you will also work on a real-life case from a chosen organization. You will apply your skills and knowledge and develop a business proposal to solve a challenge related to the organization’s strategic people management.
By completing the program, you will earn 4.5 ECTS credits that can be transferred to the Aalto EMBA or Aalto MBA programs. You will also receive feedback based on your participation.
Teaching takes place at Aalto EE's premises in Helsinki.
